When I tell people I am a body builder, they often think of an individual in a singlet on a platform doing deadlifts. Although I do lift heavy things , I have never worn a singlet.
I have been a gym rat for more then 10 years. I started my fitness journey the last few months of beauty school. Prior to that the gym intimidated me. Any time I did step in the gym I was a cardio bunny avoiding any weight lifting. 2015 I stepped out of my comfort zone and soon the gym became my sanctuary and lifting weights my healthiest coping mechanism.
In 2021 I was at my lowest weight and a few people in the gym asked me if I competed, and it planted a seed. I began the processes of becoming a body builder. I hired a coach, did a 6 month bilding phase and January 2022 i started my prep.
The purpose of a body building prep is top become the smallest version of yourself, while maintaining muscle mass. I can tell you after 20+ weeks i was surprised how little muscle development I truly had.
My first competition I looked and felt stunning. Because I am a ham I loved the attention of walking on a stage in clear stilettos. Although I was nervous the rhinestone thong did not bother me one bit. I came in dead last in all of my categories, I was not satisfied. I loved the stage . I loved the glitz and glam of being dripping in diamonds all eyes on me.
After that first show I had something to prove, I dialed it in and for that second competition I was in the best shape of my life . At that second show i got 1st place in all my categories. However i was just a dissatisfied because i was the only one in my category. I was grateful for the experience winning by default was not what i had in mind.
Besides my drug addiction Body building has been my most expensive hobby. Looking back its crazy I spent $1000+ to get judged by strangers for 30 seconds.
Would I do it again ? Yes
Will I be doing it again any time soon? Absolutely not!
